NOTES: Momotaro or the Peach Boy is a much loved fairy tale. The story is of a childless older couple who come upon a large peach. When they open it, out pops Momotaro. He eventually goes off to fight the ogres and becomes a hero. Web-Japan.org has a cute version, complete with pictures: Momotaro.
This is a very finely made doll. His hands are carved wood and there is a lot of nice detail including metal and leather trim. His head has the blue "shadow" where it was shaved. He carries a saihai (baton) and his banner, which is attached to his back. The stand has a lovely lacquered finish.
