NAME: Modern creative Japanese kokeshi

CONDITION: Some scrapes and light scratches on the hair. Small nicks on the squared edges of her hair.
NOTES: The name of this doll is "Tsubaki Koyomi" which means "The Season of Camellia". The head is made of mizuki (dogwood) and the body is chestnut. A signature board is included. This doll can still be purchased new at a cost of approx. US$95 plus shipping from Japan.
Mr. Okamoto passed in July of 2009 at the age of 91. He had won many awards including the Prime Minister Award. He started making kokeshi in 1950 and was one of the early Gunma style doll makers.
This belonged to the family that owned the collection of the Inosuke Kobayashi dolls.
