NAME: Tsugaru traditional ejiko kokeshi

MAKER: Junichi Sasamori

SIZE: 4-1/8" (11cm)

CONDITION: Small dent on the basket. Little smudging of the black paint on the head.

NOTES: Mr. Sasamori was born in 1954.

Very beautiful and detailed ejiko. The wood chatter technique was used on the top of the head, top, middle and lower body (even though this doesn't show) and the top and bottom of the basket, including the inside rim. The body is rounded and rolls freely.

Commentary: In order to bring in quality items, they usually have to be purchased individually. This automatically sets a high price as the costs cannot be shared by multiple items. This, at a time when the dollar is at it's weakest against the yen is disasterous. Prices for this shipment came in at 50% more than 3 or so years ago. Current prices (and shipment soon to be on the way) are at whopping 68% increase. Please know that I am not taking a fair markup on much of the items that have been listed this past year and yet the prices are still high. For many years we have enjoyed a strong dollar against the yen. I think we will have to accept the reversal (or stop buying) as I think it won't be changing any time soon.
